Nicole Miller Fall 2020 NYFW Runway

Nicole Miller struck a chord at New York Fashion Week, all thanks to the brand’s new “Rock 'n' Royalty” Fall 2020 ready-to-wear collection. The garments were inspired by the recent exit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as well as David Bowie, known for his gender-bending glam rocker looks in the '70s.

The new line has an air of rebellious royalty, with edgy, English-inspired outfits guaranteed to make a statement in one’s everyday wardrobe. “The range includes pieces intended to break down gender barriers and celebrate the androgynous spirit, and juxtaposes quintessential palace gardens with the underground music scene in London,” Miller has said. This collection also marks the first time the designer has sent men down the runway: Miller produced a variety of androgynous looks, including floral-printed jeans and leopard coats, for the opposite gender.

The pieces were presented in mostly dark hues (i.e. black and navy) with a touch of crimson and mustard yellow. Patterns were prominent, including pinstripes, florals, animal prints, and plaid. “Rock 'n' Royalty” also showcased a slew of classic designs: red leather pants, leather jackets, sweaters, handbags, and black combat boots.

The brand took their fashion show to the next level with unique silhouettes and styles, including square necklines and belted leather coats. Select form-fitting dresses incorporated a strip of excess fabric intentionally dangling off the side, giving off an air of elegance in motion as models strutted down the runway.

Among the most notable ensembles was the show’s opening look: a lightweight maxi dress and leather jacket embellished with crowns (a motif throughout the line). The ‘rebel without a cause’ theme was carried on throughout the course of the runway, even in a dark floral maxi dress, featuring shoulder pads and black lace trim down the front. Layered necklaces, combat boots, and an unkempt hairdo upped the edginess of the look, preventing it from coming off as a traditional, feminine floral garment.

Next in line to inherit the British crown: Nicole Miller’s new collection, featuring dauntless designs that ignite the inner renegade in all who own possess them.
