Loren Gray x Betsey Johnson's Prom-Perfect Collaboration
With prom 2020 quickly approaching, up-and-coming singer and social media star Loren Gray teamed up with whimsical American designer Betsey Johnson to be the face of a vibrant new collection in the spirit of the traditional high school event. The line--which launched March 2 exclusively at Macy’s and on Johnson’s website--features eccentric dresses, jewelry, handbags, and footwear that range from $25 to $398.
The collection highlights a vast array of prom dresses, which range in hues from pastel blue to black and white to hot pink. Standout silhouettes include traditional ball gowns, mermaid maxis, and cocktail dresses, with sweetheart, V-neck, and halter necklines taking center stage. Among the most notable designs is a multi-colored maxi sherbet dress titled “Rainbow Sweetheart,” spotlighting a subdued hybrid of pink, yellow, and green hues. “Dance the Night Away Dress” is equally wow-worthy, produced in bright pink with a playful layered ruffle skirt. For those inclined to don a more traditional design, “Halter Mermaid Dress” puts an LBD to shame, featuring a sultry open back cinched with a sparkly bow guaranteed to turn heads.
The line also includes a slew of high heel options, many of which are sandals that can be worn throughout the spring season. “SB-Mari” particularly stands out, an open-toe sandal with a rhinestone upper strap, ankle strap, and block heel, produced in nine different hues (i.e. “fuschia fab,” “pistachio,” and “champagne”).
The purses celebrate Johnson’s lively aesthetic, with oversized bow detailing and colorful rhinestones in the spotlight. “Holla For a Dolla Crossbody in Green Multi” is the ultimate novelty bag: featuring a clever dollar bill design, the crossbody is guaranteed to make money moves during prom festivities.
As for the accessories, florals, bows, and lips serve as a common thread throughout the necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and barrettes that are offered. “Sweetness and Light Drama Necklace in Multi” is for those who desire an extra dose of glitz: the gold-tone necklace is comprised of mixed charms including flowers, bugs, pearls, beads, and baubles embellished with stones.
Considering Johnson and Gray’s fun-loving spirits and shared passion for fashion, it’s no wonder their latest collaboration has captured their optimistic aura. With dress and accessory options for every personality, the duo has produced a dynamic group of designs that ensure prom will be a night to remember.
