Kelsey Cook Reaches New Heights

Sixteen-year-old Kelsey Cook is ready for her star turn. The teen began her career as a competitive dancer at age six, eventually transitioning into acting in 2018. After going on various auditions, Cook was cast in a role on the web series of her dreams: Kimmie on Brat’s Chicken Girls. She has been on the show since its start (the series now has six seasons), and she even had a featured role in the Brat Holiday Spectacular movie. In addition to getting involved with the Brat franchise, Cook took part in Nicky Jam’s music video “El Amante,” which has garnered over one billion views on YouTube. The teen has also branched out as a singer, with music video covers such as “Damn” featured on her YouTube channel. Get to know Cook as she discusses her career and takes readers behind the scenes of Chicken Girls, which garners millions of views per episode.

Which was your first love: acting, singing, or dancing?

I started off as a competitive dancer, but I fell in love with acting and singing later on.

What was the audition process like for Chicken Girls?

I actually didn’t audition for Chicken Girls. A friend of mine reached out to us and said Brat was looking for dancers to be on a rival dance team. That’s how I got the opportunity to be a part of PowerSurge.

How did it feel to be cast in your breakthrough role of Kimmie?

It felt amazing! I loved playing Kimmie on both Chicken Girls and the Brat Holiday Spectacular.

What is your favorite part about being on set?

Probably being with all of my friends. We have such great chemistry, and we always have a blast on set together!

Who are some of your favorite cast members to work with?

I love all of them, but Aliyah Moulden--who plays Luna--is my favorite!

Any funny behind the scenes moments you can share?

In Brat Holiday Spectacular, most of my scenes were with Aliyah. We literally could not stop laughing. She had to be super mean to me, and we could not keep a straight face. Brat posted some bloopers from the movie on YouTube, and it was hysterical.

How did filming the Chicken Girls: The Movie differ from filming the series episodes?

The movie took a little bit longer to film than the series episodes. It was so fun because we all got to hang out basically every day.

What was your favorite part about filming Holiday Spectacular?

Filming with different characters from the Brat universe and getting to spend time with them on set. Also, Kimmie had a different storyline than in Chicken Girls, and it’s always super cool to play someone new.

What is your endgame? What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

I hope to continue everything I’m doing now. I’m so thankful for where I am today and would love to keep working harder and booking new projects.
