Under the Sea at Freeform’s Siren Beauty Bar

Looking for your next supernatural series obsession? Siren takes places on the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. The small fishing town is turned upside down when a mysterious young woman (Eline Powell) appears and causes trouble when looking for her captured sister (Sibongile Mlambo), who was abducted by the local military. Marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) discover that these sisters are actually mermaids, so they work together to find out what drove them from the deep sea to land. Following ten captivating episodes, the second season of the series just launched last Thursday on Freeform, featuring even more mermaids. The coming episodes continue to capture the spirit of the show; as the network puts it, Siren is “subversive, gritty, dark, sexy, and thrilling, with strong feminist leads, who are unpredictable and unique.” This past week, they hosted a private Siren Beauty Bar event that certainly did the show justice.

As guests entered the space, they were offered a custom Spirulina Elixir, made with organic coconut water infused with spirulina and edible glitter. Not to mention, the drink was topped with a mini donut adorned with mermaid confections.

A manicure bar offered a variety of nail-art options inspired by the series: “High Tide,” “Seashell,” “Siren Scales,” and “Scales & Tails.” Plus, Siren was streaming on iPads as professional artists painted attendees’ tips!

Upstairs, there was a braid bar with a myriad of mermaid hair-styles provided by DreamDry, including “The Fishtail,” “Side Siren,” and “Wave Break.” A large, flat-screen television played the first episode of Season 1 on repeat as well.

Additionally, Space by Mama Medicine offered a crystallized reading. An aura-reading expert asked guests what they wish to clear out of their lives, and from there, presented a crystal that will help them on their journey.

Guests who posted on social media with the event hashtag received a complimentary Siren x POPSUGAR must-have box with a mermaid-themed candle, mug, eye shadow palette, hair ties, and more! Additionally, mini bags covered in mermaid scales were passed out as attendees exited the venue, filled with complimentary mermaid tail makeup brushes and nail polish.

Although the event took place in NYC, it’s safe to say that all the Siren-themed activations gave me serious wanderlust for the sea. Surprisingly, no underwater vacay is needed—Season 2 of the series provides a fair share of mermaids splashing around.

Make sure to tune into Siren at 8pm/7c Thursdays on Freeform.
