Talin Silva’s Time to Shine
Eighteen-year-old Talin Silva has all the tools she needs to skyrocket to the top of the entertainment industry. With singing, acting, dancing, and modeling skills under her belt, the quadruple-threat became an overnight sensation with her role as Jade on the hit Brat web series, Chicken Girls. She has also guest starred on notable television shows including Private Practice, 24, Southland, and Nickelodeon’s Webheads. Now, Silva is shifting gears from acting to focus on advancing her music career. She is signed to Parimore Entertainment and released her hit songs “Yours,” “Baby Girl,” and “Without U” under the Parimore/Sony umbrella on iTunes, Spotify, and all digital stores. Additionally, Silva teamed up with Popular Poison clothing company to release her own collection of hoodies and tees. Below, the teen takes a moment to reflect on the success of her career thus far.
What was your first love: acting, dancing, or singing?
I started acting when I was seven years old, and I started dancing when I was six years old. I trained at Millennium Dance Complex. Dancing was something I always loved to do as a child, and training with professional choreographers helped me grow as a dancer. When I was ten, I signed to BLOC L.A. Talent Agency, but I’ve been a singer my whole life! My first performance was at my elementary school talent show in third grade! I was super nervous but had lots of confidence in choreographing my own routine. The crowd loved it and so many people told me that I should be a professional singer. I trained with top vocal coaches and will always continue training to be the best I can be!
What actors/actresses inspire you and why?
Reese Witherspoon! Ever since I watched the movie, Legally Blonde, I wanted to be just like her. She’s an amazing actress! Some of my other favorite actors and actresses are Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Julie Andrews. They’ve starred in my all-time favorite films and shows that inspire my acting dreams.
Before you found television fame, you were a pageant queen. Are there skills from pageants that you carry over into your acting career?
I competed in the National All American Miss pageant when I was younger and was second runner-up. It was my first pageant! Being in pageants taught me a lot about being a leader to young girls around the world. It inspired me to become not only a well-known artist but a role model to the younger generation. I want to show people that they, too, can follow and achieve their dreams!
What was the audition process like for Chicken Girls?There wasn’t an audition process for Chicken Girls. The casting agent reached out to my manager at Parimore Entertainment asking if I’d like to be a part of the show. Of course, I couldn’t resist being a part of an amazing cast and the Brat family! When I found out I would be playing Jade, I was so excited! I couldn’t wait till the first day on set.
What was a typical day on set like?
The set of Chicken Girls is my favorite set I’ve ever worked on. I absolutely love the whole cast—they’re like my second family! Coming to the Chicken Girls set is the best part of my day, and I love getting to spend time with all my friends and the amazing crew members. Some of my closest friends on set are Indiana [Massara], Mads [Lewis], Riley [Lewis], Brooke [Butler], Annie [LeBlanc], and Dylan [Conrique]. The whole cast is an absolute treat to work with! I love them all so much, and I’m so lucky to have met everyone and created such good friendships.
Any particularly funny behind-the-scenes moments from filming Chicken Girls you can share?
There’s always something going on—it’s never quiet or boring! We love to play games on and off set and crack up over all our inside jokes! Whenever I go to set, I feel like I’m hanging out with my besties. We’re always having a good time.
Do you see any similarities between you and your character?
Jade and I are quite similar! We both love to dance and are on high school dance teams with our best friends. Jade started off in Season 2 as a bit sassy, and she was a part of the mean girl group, Powersurge. But when she met the Chicken Girls and joined forces with them, she was never the same.
How did filming the Chicken Girls movie differ from filming the series?
Filming the Chicken Girls movie was so much fun! We spent so much time on set, so all of our friendship bonds grew closer. The girls had lots of dance rehearsals for the movie, which were so fun. Some days, we were filming both the movie and the series, so we would have two productions on one set at the same time. It got hectic, but we had the best time.
How do you use your platform to make a difference in the world?
I love to do charity work and give back as much as possible! Being the first Sri-Lankan out here in America doing what I do is a huge achievement. I want to show kids that no matter where you come from or what you love to do, you can achieve any goal you set your mind to. In Christmas of 2017, with the help of my social media friends, I donated household items, clothes, and furniture to a less fortunate family. It was the best feeling in the world to give back. I’ve also done many charitable events—it’s something I love to do and will continue to do in my career.
What are your future plans?
I’m working on new music and possibly releasing an album! Of course, I’ll be continuing my acting jobs and training as a dancer. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me!
