Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall/Winter 2019 NYFW Presentation showed nothing short of female empowerment. The collection--which the brand has described as “innovative separates that can be worn multiple ways featured in a vibrant color palette of sky blues, bright fuchsias, tomato reds, and sandy neutrals”--represents the everyday modern working woman. Indeed, the designer paired with online styling service Stitch Fix to extend the size range of her clients (up to 24 and 3X) to further encourage inclusivity within fashion.

The presentation at Pier59 Studios featured vibrant-colored stations; each background was themed to look like a woman’s job setting, with tables covered in paper clips, pens, and folders. Models dressed in work attire to match, from classic dresses to pantsuits in a wide range of patterns, colors, and silhouettes. However, the idea was not to establish conformity or stiffness within the garments, rather suggest a more experimental, playful side to workwear. Suits were upgraded with oversized structures and puffed shoulders, while motos and bombers were shown in bold metallic or printed fabrics.

One of the most memorable aspects of Minkoff’s presentation was an actual mother breastfeeding her child, a celebration of working moms worldwide. Mara Martin was the model doing so, seated aside a Medela Freestyle pump and a purse to represent the female group that is often overlooked in the fashion industry.

To embody the modern everyday woman, one must appeal to the mindset of many. Minkoff’s most recent collection is indeed alluring to all: whether you want to show off a brighter spirit or lay low with a more neutral palette, the brand has established options for everyone.
