Nordstrom Unveils Its New NYC Flagship

Nordstrom, a Seattle-based department store retailer, has unveiled its first New York City flagship, a 320,000 square-foot store complete with an array of clothing and beauty services, as well as seven food and drink hotspots for an immersive shopping experience.

Founded in 1909 by Carl F. Wallin, the former shoe store has significantly changed the market for department stores. The brand now has locations across 40 states and consistently launches new features, including Trunk Club, a personal styling service; Nordstrom Rack, which offers discount clothing; and HauteLook, a members-only shopping site.

Located in close proximity to Central Park and Columbus Circle, the new flagship offers seven floors of luxurious beauty, fashion, and food choices. It features a wide range of unique services, including a 24/7 online order pickup; clothing alterations; stroller cleaning; shoe and handbag repairs; and personal stylist appointments in the Trunk Club styling lounge, which includes nine fitting rooms. At the heart of it all is a floor entirely dedicated to shoes, featuring 100,000 different heels, booties, and more; there is even a personalization studio where visitors can design their own pair.

The flagship also contains a floor catered to high-end buyers, showcasing designs from six luxury brands including Burberry and Saint Laurent. The exclusive pop-up shops and experiences are available to all, including a Nordstrom x Nike collaboration room covered in red velvet walls and an Instagrammable Burberry ‘cafe.’

The beauty floor offers a wide range of spa services such as Nordstrom Beauty Haven manicures, Drybar blowouts, FaceGym facials (a favorite of Duchess Meghan Markle), and Anastasia Brow Bar eyebrow waxing. In exploring the beauty floors, visitors are likely to come across augmented reality try-on stations as well, which allow them to virtually test foundation and lipstick shades.

Nordstrom prides itself on creating valuable in-store experiences, hence why the company has incorporated 20 restaurants across its stores--its NYC flagship with feature seven designed by Seattle chefs Ethan Stowell and Tom Douglass. As Jamie Nordstrom, President of Nordstrom, stated in the company’s press release, the two accomplished cooks will “be a great complement to our already strong restaurant portfolio.” Chef Stowell opened Wolf, a homage to his Seattle-based restaurant, on the third floor of the flagship; the menu features simple Italian dishes inspired by the fresh ingredients of the Pacific Northwest, such as king crab, salmon, and spaghetti with uni butter. Chef Douglass opened two other eateries as well: Jeannies, a family-friendly pizza and pasta restaurant, and Hani Pacific, a modern restaurant inspired by the cuisine of the Pacific Rim. Bistro Verde is also destined to become a customer favorite, providing classic dishes such as soups and pastas. Nordstrom NYC even contains two beverage bars, Broadway Bar and Shoe Bar, which offer cocktails and light bites to shoppers. For those with a sweet tooth, dessert shop Oh Mochi serves up gluten-free treats and mochi-donuts.

A shopper’s new haven, Nordstrom’s flagship is guaranteed to draw in customers who are eager to explore.
