Elli Moore’s New Music Is Better Than “OK”

Twenty-three-year-old Elli Moore is just the sound today’s pop industry needs: with addictive melodies, clever production, and lyrics that are “colorful and conversational,” each of Moore’s singles makes a memorable statement. Hence why her debut hit “Gateaway” received high praise from magazines worldwide, was featured in hundreds of Spotify playlists in its first week, and is played on the large screen at Universal City Walk. Moore is also a part of production/writing duo LYRE, working with Mackenzie Ziegler, Gabbie Hanna, Niki & Gabi, Betty Who, and more. In 2018, Moore's songs reached #1 on iTunes in all genres, as well as made consistent appearances in the top 10. As a vocalist, she is currently the singing voice of Barbie in all Barbie shows and movies, including Netflix's "Barbie Dreamhouse Adventure", where she performs the theme song as well as others in the seasons. Moore is coming into her own as a solo artist with the recent release of her song, “OK.” Below, she shares the inspiration behind the hit.

How would you describe the style of your music?

Suuuuuuper pop—so bubblegum, it’ll hurt your teeth. I just grew up on Disney Channel music, and I love to have fun with the live show dancing, so that means the music has to show up in that way.

How does your latest song, “OK,” differ from previous songs you’ve released?

I think “OK” is the catchiest song I have. When I first wrote it, all of my friends kept texting me that they woke up singing it or found themselves singing it when they were in the shower, which is a massive compliment. They think I was trying to sneak my songs into their everyday life, which, as a songwriter, is what you want. You want the song to be so good people can’t unhear it.

What was the production process like from start to finish?

Funny enough, Alina—the other half of LYRE—and I wrote it on my bed in approximately 30 mins. We just put a little beat together, and the chorus came first. After the song was fully written, we went all in on the production!

What is the main message of “OK?”

The song is all about self-love, and the music video is as well. The tagline of the song is “I guess I never loved you like I love me, and that’s okay with me,” which I find to be a super powerful line/message. If you‘re in a relationship where you aren’t putting your needs at an equal level to who you‘re with, it may not be the right situation for you. I think people find self-love to be misconstrued as egotistical, but it’s really hard to love someone fully if you don’t know how to love yourself first.

What type of music do you hope to produce in the future?

I’m really lucky that I’m a part of LYRE, so I get to help create music for not only myself but amazing other artists like Kenzie Ziegler, Gabbie Hanna, Niki and & Gabi, and more! I’m excited to keep creating different songs all across the genre board.

You can stream “OK” on Spotify and Apple Music.
