Actress Sophie Michelle Shines On Screen
Fourteen-year-old Sophie Michelle is a YouTuber turned singer turned actress—not to mention, an all-around superstar. The teen began her career in 2017 posting videos on YouTube of her traveling adventures, clothing hauls, beauty routines, comedy skits and song covers, and her channel has garnered over 788,000 subscribers to date. Michelle has also released original music, including her hit single “No Brakes” with Brat Records, and she is currently working on new songs to be announced soon. Michelle also stars as Lizzie on Brat’s new series, Stage Fright, and she co-wrote and sang the show’s theme song, “Someone Else in the Dark.” Below, she dives into each of her endeavors and spills all about her Stage Fright experience.
When did you first decide to launch your YouTube channel?
I started my YouTube channel in 2017. Before I started my channel, I would watch YouTube all the time! I was super inspired by different lifestyle content creators, including Cloe Feldman, Rachel Levin, Eva Gutowski and more. I also slowly started to post more comedy skits, vlogs and song covers so my channel wasn’t just lifestyle videos.
What is your favorite video you’ve uploaded to date, and why?
There are many videos that I love, but I really enjoy doing comedy skits. My favorite video would have to be “How Teens Get Ready.” I produced and edited that video myself—it took me about five hours! There’s so much that goes behind content creation that most people don’t really know about. I also love to share the behind-the-scenes process of making my videos. I always want to keep my audience updated with what’s happening in my life.
When did you decide to transition into acting/singing?
I’ve always wanted to perform. I’ve been singing since I was three years old, and I started taking vocal lessons at age 10. As soon as I began acting, I knew it was something I wanted to do forever. I love the idea of creating a character and being someone else for a bit. I still love YouTube, but I’m having the time of my life pursuing my dreams!
What was your first-ever audition like?
It was quite hectic. My managers sent me out just to see what it was like, and it was a few hours before my flight back to Florida. After my audition, they called my mom into the room, asked for my manager’s contact info, and said we would be shooting the next day! I wasn’t even registered as a working actress yet, so unfortunately, I wasn’t able to shoot the project. It was crazy, but it went really well!
What’s your favorite original song you released? What inspired it?
Probably my latest single, “Someone Else in the Dark.” It’s inspired by moments in Stage Fright, and it reflects the whole vibe of the show. It’s actually the theme song, which is really cool!
Where were you and how did you react when you found out you were cast in Stage Fright?
I was completing school assignments when my mom told me, and I couldn’t wait to get to work! I love Brat, and all of their shows are amazing, so I was thrilled to become a part of the network.
What is your favorite part about being on set?
I love everything about being on set, but if I had to choose one thing, it would probably be all of the amazing friendships I made with the cast and crew. It was so much fun getting to know everyone. In between shots, we would sneak away to eat snacks or make TikToks, and we would just have so much fun.
How do you tap into your character?
I loved playing Lizzy. She’s such a strong, well-written character, and I knew I wanted to bring her to life. Acting can be challenging because it’s all about being someone else while tapping into your own emotions. When Lizzy was happy, I had to tap into that part of myself, and when Lizzy was sad, I had to tap into that. I even learned to cry on command, which was really weird to do in front of so many people, but I think it really helped the scene.
Any memorable behind-the-scenes moments/bloopers you can share?
Sometimes, it would be so hard to keep a straight face on set. There’s one scene in particular that the whole cast is in, and it took forever to film because everyone would burst into laughter every time the director called “action.”
Who were some of your closest friends on set?
Honestly, the whole cast really came together as one the second we met. We’re all really close.
If you could say one thing to your fans, what would it be?
Keep being you, and don’t ever give up. When I was in school, I used to be bullied for having a YouTube channel. For a while, I thought about quitting, even though it was something I loved doing. I’m so happy that I kept with it because it’s opened so many doors for me, and now I’m living my dream as an actress and a singer. If you have a dream, keep working hard until it comes true!
What is your endgame? What do you ultimately hope to accomplish in the future?
I feel like I’m living my dream every day! I’m so lucky that I get to do what I love, and I feel even luckier that my fans love and support all of my projects. I definitely want to keep acting and making music. Maybe I’ll even go on tour!

Acting or singing? I get asked this question all the time, and it’s so hard to pick because I love both so much. However, I’m focusing a lot more on my acting right now. I’m really excited for my fans to see me working on different acting projects that I can’t wait to spill more about!
YouTube or Instagram? Both!
Mystery or comedy? Right now, my favorite is mystery, but it changes between the two!
Movies or TV? I love movies, but I would have to say TV! I feel like when you’re on a TV show, and it has so many seasons, the cast becomes like a family. Movies are awesome, though!
Sushi or pizza? PIZZA! I got excited...it’s the Italian in me.
