Actress Pilot Paisley-Rose Paints A Bright Future

Pilot Paisley-Rose is no stranger to the small screen. The 14-year-old former competitive gymnast began acting at the age of 10, receiving her first role as Jessa Moreland in the Netflix film All Hallows’ Eve, a role she obtained a Young Artist Award for. Paisley-Rose went on to guest star in the series finale of Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, as well as on Season 5 of Brat’s Chicken Girls. The teen is also a singer: she will debut her EP with Extreme Music/Sony later this year. Below, she traces the steps of her career in the entertainment industry to date.

When did you first develop your passion for acting?

From ages six to ten, I was a competitive gymnast, in the gym 25 hours per week. I have a little sister, Bluebelle Saraceno, who asked my mom for an agent when she was four years old--it doesn’t get more Hollywood than that. By that point, I was ready to move on from gymnastics and saw how cool acting was, so I decided to give it a try. I fell in love with it instantly and decided that it was what I wanted to do with my life. I signed with an agency and a manager and have been passionate about it ever since.

How does acting in films differ from acting on television?

I absolutely love this question because I’ve been working on this a lot recently. With TV acting, it’s all about the timing, choices, and authenticity. It’s about keeping the audience invested in your storyline and, of course, being grounded and believable. My favorite part about TV acting is getting to advance your character while advancing the plot simultaneously. You really get to work off of other actors and use your imagination when creating the character. While film acting shares a lot of similarities, there are some major differences as well. An amazing director once told me that in film, it’s all about the essence of the character. They don’t want to see an actor playing the character--they want you to be the character. It’s more about seeing your raw performance.

What was your favorite part about starting in All Hallows’ Eve?

All Hallows’ Eve was a great experience in every way. It was my first film, and I was the only child actor on set. I was able to learn so much from the entire cast and crew, and I had a lot of opportunities to watch talented actors and learn their methods.

How did your roles on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and Chicken Girls differ?

On Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, my character, Danielle, was a rich, thespian girl who was ready to be a movie star. On Chicken Girls, my character, Astrid, had a rough upbringing and desperately wanted love and attention. What was great about Chicken Girls was that Astrid was brought on for an entire season, so my character had more time to develop. You got to see that there’s more to Astrid than you might have initially thought.

Who were some of your favorite cast members to hang out with on set and why?

I’ve been very lucky to have worked with only kind and considerate people. I had a great time with everyone.

Any memorable behind-the-scenes moments you can share?

On Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, I came in on the last episode of the entire series. While I was saying, “Hi, I’m Pilot. Nice to meet you,” they were having emotional moments and saying goodbye to the people they’d worked with for four years. I was trying to be professional but felt so bad because I didn’t want to ruin their moment. It’s actually kind of funny looking back on it.

How do you plan on using your platform to make a difference in the world?

I post videos on IGTV and sometimes my Instagram where I talk about the issues I’m passionate about. I speak about topics such as animal abuse, climate change, women’s rights, and more. I try to stay away from talking about politics and other topics that might offend people. My story is also full of posts, quotes, reminders, and news updates about some of the issues I just mentioned.

Any other future plans?

I’m working on an EP right now with Extreme Music for Sony Records! I’m so excited because I wrote the songs all by myself. It’s great because I get to release songs that come from my heart and share messages that I want to share.
