Met Gala 2018 Best Dressed List

The annual Met Gala in New York City has truly evolved into a fashion carnival. Prior to viewing the new exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrities line up to have their pictures taken on the grand staircase wearing some of the most incredible statement pieces of the year. It has become a tradition for popular designers and clothing brands to dress the stars according to the theme of the installation. This year’s guideline was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and guests were told to dress in their “Sunday Best.” The Met and the Vatican worked together for more than a year to gather more than 40 items for the installation, and curator Andrew Bolton was even given access to the hidden chambers where nuns look after the Pope's clothes. Celebrities who attended drew inspiration from the vast history of Catholic art and channeled it into outfits that included Nativity headpieces, jewelry adorned with crosses, and even a huge pair of angel wings. Although yesterday’s event was filled with astonishing couple announcements and wow-worthy haircut debuts, I decided to highlight the clear star of the show: the fashion. Below you will find my top 10 favorite looks from the memorable evening that will leave you having the chicest of dreams.

1. Blake Lively

For her ninth Met Gala, the former Gossip Girl actress stunned in a custom Versace gown with a bejeweled gold bodice and a regal embroidered train. She paired the look with $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, including a custom-made halo with over 100 carats of nude champagne diamonds.

2. Katy Perry

The "Chained to the Rhythm" singer certainly made a statement in a Versace gold metallic mini dress with sheer long sleeves, paired with Victoria's Secret-style feathery white wings. The gold over-the-knee boots were the perfect touch!

3. Kim Kardashian

The mogul and reality star looked like she was dripping in gold in her custom chainmail Versace dress with embroidered crosses on the bodice and left hip. The double cross necklaces, long hair extensions, and dramatic makeup definitely upped the drama.

4. Sarah Jessica Parker

One thing's for sure: this look would definitely have Carrie Bradshaw bowing down. SJP's gold Dolce & Gabbana ensemble almost had a Queen of Hearts vibe going for it. And that Nativity scene on her head?! Simply brilliant.

5. Zendaya

The style icon's outfits never cease to amaze me. Last night's look was no exception: her Joan of Arc-inspired custom silver Versace gown was a clear highlight of the evening.

6. Madonna

Considering her Catholic upbringing, it was obvious that Madonna was going to bring something extraordinary to the table for last night's event. She did not disappoint, making a shocking statement in a Gothic-church inspired black dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. She accessorized the look with a crucifix dotted crown, a net veil, multiple cross necklaces, and a bouquet of black roses.

7. Bella Hadid

The model is giving off major Darth Vader vibes...in the best way possible! She looked absolutely wow-worthy in an all black outfit by Chrome Hearts. The ensemble featured a patent leather bustier top, exaggerated shoulders, and a black and gold veil that trailed behind her as she made her way up the steps of the Met. Fingerless gloves, a gold cross necklace, braided hair, and simplistic makeup completed the look.

8. Jennifer Lopez

JLo absolutely slayed her 10th Met Gala appearance in a Balmain gown with a bejeweled cutout cross detail in the center and a long, black, feather skirt.

9. Ariana Grande

As soon as the singer teased her fabric on social media the day of the event, it was undeniable that her outfit was going to be a showstopper. She turned heads in a Vera Wang ball gown highlighting Michelangelo's The Last Judgement" painting from the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. The gold veil that she tied into a bow should also be acknowledged--so chic!

10. Rihanna

All hail Queen Ri! The "Diamonds" singer dazzled onlookers in a Margiela corset mini dress with a long, silver, bejeweled skirt that trailed behind her. Along with a pearl anklet and crucifix necklace, she topped of the look with a sparkling headpiece inspired by a Bishop's hat. Who knew that papal fashion could look so divine?
