SVA’s New Street Displays: #UnconventionallyObsessed
The School of Visual Arts is hitting the streets of Manhattan again with their “Obsessorize: Common Objects Uncommon Accessories” public art exhibition. The 28-piece collection—designed exclusively by the school’s students—is coordinated with Marie Claire’s particularly artistic October 2018 issue. Inspired by iconic head-to-toe accessories of the past, the designs displayed in plexiglass cases on Madison Avenue are made out of unconventional materials such as clocks, mirrors, and even Barbie dolls. Below, you will find my top ten favorite pieces from the exhibition that instantaneously triggered an urge for me to obsessorize.
1. Barbie Doll Shoes by Christina Lomoncodo
From her dream house to the street, Barbie looks as fashionable as ever with her hot pink stilettos; plastered on to human-size heels, they look even more extravagant...in the best way possible.
2. Chandelier Headpiece by Filipa Mota
This wearable work of art looks like it came straight out of Gatsby’s mansion, with touches of gold-dusted flowers that contribute to its allure.
3. Mouse Trap Shoes by Ji Jung
These shoes would certainly trap consumers--the cheese sole and multi-faceted trap heel are so innovative, wearers would never want to take them off!
4. Fan Glasses by Jiazhe Shi
Look out world, these neon orange shades will blow you away.
5. Doorknob Shoes by Justin Wong
Cinderella might need to reconsider her glass slippers; these heels--adorned with a bronze-dusted exterior, rusted keyhole in the insole, and crystalized doorknob on the toe box--look like they came straight out of a fairytale.

Collecting shells of all sizes from the beach is clearly more than just a summer activity.
