Lulu Lambros is Living the Dream!

Since age four, Lulu Lambros has been striving toward her dream of becoming an actress. She got her start in community theater, performing on stage in Annie, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Jungle Book, and more productions. Additionally, she spent five seasons studying and performing Shakespeare at The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. At age 10, during a performance produced by her acting academy, Lambros was finally approached by talent agents and signed with them within days. From there, her career soared: she got her big break when she was cast as Ellie Peters on  Stuck in the Middle, a Disney original series with nearly three million viewers. Lambros also was given the opportunity to appear in Nickelodeon’s Mutt & Stuff, DreamWorks TV’s Chef Steph, and sketch comedy show AwesomenessTV. But in her free time, the 15-year-old actress works tirelessly to help raise awareness for anti-bullying, pet rescue, and research and development in the medical field. Read my interview below to find out more about this ambitious teen.

When did you first discover you had a passion for acting?

I discovered my passion for acting when I was three or four. I wanted to do what my favorite characters on TV were doing.  My parents initially put me in children’s theater as a starting point so that I could see if that was what I really wanted to do. By the time I was ten, I had an agent and began to audition for TV and film.

When you were just starting out, you starred in Chef Stef and acted in numerous episodes of DreamWorks TV’s OMG! What were those experiences like for you?

Working with AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV on sketch comedy shows was a blast. I met a lot of kids back then, back when none of us had been on TV shows yet. I feel so fortunate to have been able to work so much and learn so much during my time there.

Your star status skyrocketed when you were cast as Ellie on Disney’s Stuck in the Middle. What was the audition process like for the show?

The audition process for SITM was just like any other audition for a show. I went in for the initial audition and it seemed to go well, but you never really know. You just go in and do your best, hope for the best, and then move on to the next one. In this case, I got a callback with about three or four other girls and the same amount of women who were auditioning to play my mom. A couple of days later, my manager called to tell me I was one of their favorites but that it could be a while before the final decision was made. Surprisingly, my parents got a call a few hours later saying I booked it—I was Ellie!

What was your initial reaction when you found out you would be playing the role of Ellie?

My parents picked me up at school that day to tell me the news. I cried, laughed, jumped up and down, and hugged my parents so tight they thought I would never let them go. I was so happy to be a Disney kid!

How did you tap into your character while studying your script?

I approached Ellie as I do with most scripts. I listen to the writer’s description and vision and then find ways to incorporate the parts of me and my own personality that relate to the character. No two actors play the same character in the same way.

What was it like working with the cast and crew?

The cast and crew is always the best part of any work project. It’s what I miss the most when a project wraps production.  Collaborating and co-creating is the best part of my job. I love it!

Any particularly moment you can share from being on set?

The most memorable moments are those spent with the cast and crew during our downtime, like eating meals together or sitting in the hair and makeup chairs. Just relaxing and being silly. Probably the funniest moments were the bloopers and outtakes, especially when we were tired.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since Stuck in the Middle ended?

Since SITM wrapped I have finished middle school, started training in the gym to keep my body strong and fit, returned to comedy improvisation classes to stay sharp, and spent time in one of my favorite cities: New York.

Is there any particular actress or actor you dream of working with in the future?

I would love to work with so many of today’s great actors. Most recently, I watched Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. I would be honored to work with any of those talented ladies, but especially Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams.

How do you use your celebrity status to make a difference in the world?

When I’m not working or doing school work, I support organizations that I feel passionately about, such as anti-bullying, pet rescue, medical research for children, and child hunger. I will always lend a hand when I can and help spread awareness for those causes. I’ve learned that educating people is the most important step in expediting progress. If we all help, we can make progress!

What are you up to now?

Now I’m in high school and back on the audition trail. Wish me luck!
