Diego Martir On Becoming Insta Famous

Diego Martir is a social media force. After joining Instagram in 2016, the 16-year-old quickly built a strong fan base that was drawn to his feed, which is filled with authentic, fun-loving content. In 2018, Martir completed a tour with meet and greets for his 1.3M social media supporters across America. Additionally, he was a featured creator at Playlist Live--a convention highlighting social media stars-- both in the Tri-State area (September 2018) and in Orlando (March 2019). As of now, the teen has multiple acting and music video projects on the horizon, but social media will always remain a significant part of his career. Below, Martir shares some of his top tips when it comes to building a successful online platform.

How did you rise to fame on Instagram?

Posting pictures and videos and just being really active. Sometimes, it’s a lot of work, but constantly being around and talking with supporters has made my social media family grow so much.

Why do you think people are drawn to your account?

I think they’re drawn to my positivity. I love posting videos that make people laugh.

What message are you trying to get across through your platform?

To stay positive--life always gets better. I want my supporters to know that I’m always there for them when I can be so they never feel alone.

What are some of your favorite videos you’ve posted on your feed?

My “Short People Can Run Fast Too” video! That was definitely my favorite video so far.

Who are some of your favorite people to follow on Instagram and why?

My fan pages. They’re so dedicated and are constantly communicating by making artwork and video edits. It’s cool to see how talented they are—they’re like their own community of supporters. I also follow my friends. I don’t follow a lot of celebrities.

What has been the most exciting moment of your career thus far?

Tour! That has been my favorite thing ever. Traveling all over the country, hanging out with my supporters, and meeting new people is the best. I love when I get to see supporters in real life and hear their stories.

What tips do you have for others who want to grow their Instagram following?

Stick to working hard and be committed to what you want most. Everybody is different.

What do you like to do when you’re not on Instagram?

Think about content, my supporters, and what I can do for events. I’m always planning and wanting to work on stuff. I used to play soccer a lot, though.

What is your endgame? What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

I want to continue working on building my career by acting, being on stage, traveling, and meeting supporters. I’m 16, and I love what I do. I want to focus on more things to keep that alive and continue to grow and be successful.
